If you’re looking for something a little out of the ordinary this spring, we’ve got just the thing: on Saturday, April 11, we’re hosting a free, one-of-a-kind comedy performance from the University of Florida’s Driveway Theatre Project — and it promises to be a FUN afternoon!
The show is a wild, free-form retelling of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales — all of them, more or less, crammed into one gloriously chaotic performance. Two narrators race through the stories at breakneck speed, weaving together Rapunzel, Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rumpelstiltskin, and more, including some of the more obscure tales you probably didn’t grow up with. The result is one gigantic, madcap fable with plenty of audience participation along the way.
The Driveway Theatre Project brings together talented actors and crew from UF to create accessible, community-centered performances, and we are thrilled to welcome them back to the Gallery. The show is family friendly, though parents should keep in mind that Grimm fairy tales can be a little dark and scary for very young children. Use your best judgment — older kids who love a good story (and a little chaos) will have a blast.
Refreshments begin at 12:30 pm and the show begins at 1 pm. Light refreshments will be served. Tickets are free but you must RSVP at the Gallery — so stop by or call soon, as seating is limited. Parking in the area can fill up quickly, so we recommend arriving early to give yourself plenty of time. We hope to see you there!
