Featured Artist: Teddy Pruett (March 2023)

February 18, 2023 by Gateway Art Gallery

Author & quilting expert, Teddy McMahon Pruett

The Gateway Art Gallery is proud to host nationally known quilter and newly published author, Teddy McMahon Pruett, as our Featured Artist in March, where her “Lullabies on Linen” collection will be on display throughout the month. This series of quilts incorporates vintage baby dresses and fabrics with glorious antique embroidery to create one-of-a-kind works of art! A free opening reception for this exhibit is being held Friday, March 3 at 5pm.

Teddy Pruett is a native Floridian born into a military family, and has moved nearly eighty times. She recently retired from a 25 year career as a Certified Appraiser of quilts and textiles, and is a nationally recognized expert in the field of quilt history. Her location in Florida put her in the enviable position to work with quilts from all over the country and all time periods. Teddy is an active, participating member of the Southeastern Quilt Study Group, and the Florida Quilt Study Group, past co-curator and member of Board of Directors of the Florida Quilt Museum.

Teddy has shared quilts and information all over the country, both antique and her own Second Hand Story quilts made of recycled textiles. Teddy’s work has appeared in books, magazines, art galleries and museums and she has been featured on a PBS special.

Learn more about Teddy on her website at www.teddypruett.com and then be sure to come meet her in person at her very first book signing at the Gallery! The book signing date is tentatively set for March 15th from 12pm – 2pm. Keep an eye on this page for updates.
