Our premier youth art program—Youth Art League—exists to provide young people with an opportunity to express themselves creatively and develop their artistic abilities. Lessons are designed to be both informative and enjoyable for all of our students. Past lessons have included acrylic pour, paper art, drawing, pastels, watercolor, pen and ink, sculpting with paper, and painting with 3-D glasses, just to name a few. All materials are provided by the Gateway Art Gallery, supported by a grant from Clay Electric Co-Op.
- YAL classes are held monthly from January—November
- 3rd Saturday: Junior YAL (ages 10-13) @ 10:00-11:30 am (5 seats left) — Senior YAL (ages 14-17) @ 12:30-2:00 pm (15 seats left)
- 4th Saturday: Elementary YAL (ages 6-9) @ 10:00-11:30 am (1 seat left)
- 2nd Wednesday: TKA (grades 1-3) @ 3:00-5:00 pm — TKTA is open to Columbia County school children in grades 1-3 and is designed to improve literacy through art education.
Important YAL changes coming in 2026
- YAL enrollment is limited to 25 students per age group (TKA, Elementary, Junior, Senior)
- YAL classes are now on the 3rd and 4th Saturdays, with two classes/time slots on the 3rd Saturday
- Our YAL program is partially grant funded and we need children attending regularly to fulfill the grant requirements. Attending as many lessons as possible helps us keep our grant funding. Please keep class dates posted on your fridge or subscribe to our calendar reminders.
How to join YAL
- Enrollment fee: $20/year for one age group
- There are forms that must be filled out to finalize registration before the first day of class, so please drop by the Gallery and sign up prior to your child’s first lesson.
- Once registered, be sure to arrive at each lesson a few minutes early to give our volunteers time to get your child checked in and seated before class begins.
