It’s a good question. How would you depict the theme “Winter in Florida”? The artist members of the Art League of North Florida were challenged to a competition. Winners were recently honored at a reception by the Gateway Art Gallery, revealing a very different take by the various artists.
- Herb Ellis’ black/white silver gelatin print entitled “Finding Solitude No. 2” garnered the first place award.
- Following in second place was a muted watercolor by Jim Riley, featuring Florida wildlife in “Winter Flight.”
- Third place went to well-known plein air painter John Larner with a large oil painting landscape in his impressionistic style (a close-up detail is shown.)
All works are framed and available for sale. The “Winter in Florida” display will remain in the Gallery until the end of January.
